Most people are unaware of a new section to this blog. It is slapdash. I will upload images or text entries to show my ideas and thoughts. Some good, some, bad. Most will not make any sense. I have a reason for this. All of this is being tagged, soooo, I will be able to search my ideas in the future and so can you.

Thanks, Jamie

oh I should have several updates today, as I post several things I have writing or drawing.

Two post from a couple of podcast I was listening to. The qoute is:3.jpg

A designer I know can to me the other with this logo project. She asked if we could discuss some ideas together. Not rocket science, but here is what came out of the brainstorming session.

Charlie Brown Finally Wins!

Once again the world tunes in to see the “best of the best” of commercials for the super bowl. Oh yeah, there was a football game too. Anyway, I thought overall the commercials were not that great. Most tried to be funny and failed. Nothing really moved me. Out of all the commercials only one stood out to me. It was the Coke spot with Charlie Brown finally winning. I’m not sure, but I may be the only person on the planet that noticed that Charlie Brown was in the commercial. Everything that I have read and heard this morning, has people thinking it was that stewie whatever his name is, guy that ended up with the ball, he didn’t Charlie, finally won. Oh did you catch the little girl that looked like Lucy, holding the football? I thought that was clever. Well that is my take on the ads for the super bowl.

Here is the Top Ten list from the people that voted for the USA TODAY AD METER.

  1. Budweiser Dalmatian trains Clydesdale to make beer wagon team.
  2. FedEx FedEx beats giant carrier pigeons.
  3. Bridgestone Critters scream with squirrel missed by car.
  4. Doritos Giant rat goes for guy’s bag of chips.
  5. Bud Light Fire-breather heats up romantic dinner.
  6. Bud Light Men sneak beer into wine-and-cheese party.
  7. Coca-Cola Cartoon-character parade balloons go after Coke Classic.
  8. Diet Pepsi Max Star-studded cast stops dozing.
  9. Planters Scent of nuts makes homely woman alluring.
  10. (tie) Tide to Go Shirt stain is louder than a job candidate.
SoBe Life Water Lizards dance with model Naomi Campbell.

Maybe, next year will be more creative.
Take Care, Jamie

Taking the concept of thinking outside the box, these ads explode off the page.

We have all heard the term in our careers, “Think outside of the box.” As Designers, or Creative People in general, we all want to think outside the box. It’s the Holy Grail of Creativity. Create something that makes the light bulb go off in our head, or the ah ha moment we receive when we see something that is put together just right.

So last week I received an email with a subject line that read: Great Auto Ads. At First I didn’t even look at the subject of the message. A few days later I finally got around to downloading the file to my desktop. Today, I opened the file. Now, let me just say MOST of the ads in this pdf file are by no means the greatest ad design work you have ever seen. If fact, MOST of them do not even deserve to be associated with the word great. But, there are a few that I thought were treated very well and truly push the term of “Thinking outside of the Box”. My two favorites are below.
Hyundai Van Ad

Peugeot Flex Auto Ad

I came across Google’s Open Social info today. I have not fully jumped into understanding it yet, but I did come up with this idea:

What if you could build a website where the user could add almost like widgets to the site that would show all of the social networks that the user was a member too.
Almost like a social network portal where instead of having to go to each site to interact with your friends you could control everything from one place.

Every user would control the layout and look of “their” page and also other users from the site could also see what other members were doing.

I think this would be a cool social network. Almost like the main portal for everything social network.

I’m thinking that Google’s Open Social will allow you to add widgets for other sites on the other social network pages, but I think it would be better to have them all in one place.

If you know of a software developer or you are one leave a comment so I can contact you.

thanks, Jamie
