Tech

First off let me say that the features on the new Apple ipod are crazy cool. I new the day was coming. I told several friends when the iphone was released that the ipod would be next. I assumed all of the same features as the iphone except the ability to make a call would be available. Also I figured that you would be able to purchase songs etc through itunes. This is not rocket science.

What I did not expect was the ity bity storage capabilities. I understand that technology may be the factor here. Either, A. It would be too expensive to cram all of this stuff together and have a 80 gig storage or B. The technology is not here yet to allow you to cram all of that cool stuff together and still have 80 gigs storage. I think it is a cost factor.

I consider myself a music lover. I love music. I have over 5000 songs in my itunes library. So having said that I may not be the norm. I am sure there are other people that have more than I do. Which brings me to the new ipod although crazy cool with all of the new features will not benefit me or some other people with large music, video libraries. I need storage, so until they are available with a lot of storage I will just have to save up.

What I am not disappointed with however is the new nano. My son has a nano and he loves it. He has been wanting to watch tv shows on that thing forever. So the addition of video on the nano will be a feature that many will love. My son included.

I am sure that the new features available on the New Apple ipod will make people buy it without blinking a eye. For me, I’ll wait for the larger drives. Then I can carry all of my songs and even purchase more on the go!

In my recent research on Social Media and Web 2.o, I have found that we (the people) are making the choices on the web. We decide what we see, read , hear, when we like. Lately, I have had a great deal of trouble or issues with my cable company. When talking to people about it, almost every time the conversation ends with “Wouldn’t be nice if you could pick the channels you wanted.”

Long story short there is a channel that is not offered in my area and I want it. I wonder with Apple’s Apple tv if there was a way that Apple could one day be a cable provider? Think of like this, Right now our cable or Sat. companies offer Packages. 250 pre chosen channels that we probably only watch a handfull of. Total waste of bandwidth.

Now skip to the future. What if Apple, using there technology of Apple tv could stream what YOU wanted to watch anytime. I am talking cable networks here. Just imagine the ability of choosing what you wanted to watch and only having to pay for what you are subscribed to through RSS. I really think that is possible.

Signing up and selecting shows of course, could be done through itunes etc. I guess they could have packages available BUT you also could have original or niche content as well a la carte. Not only that, but you could have a channel where you could upload your own movies for anyone to see! Just imagine the ability to see just about whatever you are interested in.

So, do you think Apple has planned this all along or am I on to something? Or more important did I just give away a VERY Lucrative Business Plan for free?

You decide. After all thats, what Social Media and Web 2.o are all about.

thanks,
Jamie
